about

Charity fundraising single, released in aid of two-year-old Sophie Roberts, featuring legendary Go West frontman Peter Cox and other recording stars. The accompanying video can be seen here www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyosaGehEnA.

Sophie was diagnosed with a rare form of liver and lung cancer in June 2011 and parents Andrew and Ruth Roberts were told she had only a 30% chance of survival.

After enduring seven rounds of chemotherapy and liver and lung surgery, brave Sophie went into remission in March 2012. However, Sophie’s tumour marker started to climb in late April and the cancer was found to have returned aggressively throughout her lungs in early May.

Doctors have told Sophie's parents the only way to save their daughter is surgery in the US in August. Andrew and Ruth, together with family, friends and well-wishers have raised over £250,000 towards the surgery, but need to reach £350,000 to cover the full costs and further treatment.

‘Shout if from the rooftops’ is a charity single that’s been written, recorded and released to help Andrew and Ruth raise the funds for the operation, and to help other children like Sophie.

Guildford’s Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) operations manager Adam Pain, head of part time studies Roger Davis and song writing lecturer Tim Bricheno wrote the song in a matter of days and just a week after first putting pen to paper and with the help of ACM music production lecturer Clive Cherry, recording was underway.

Main vocals for the track were provided by legendary Go West frontman Peter Cox, alongside the awesome John James Newman and highly acclaimed session singer and ACM tutor Katie Hector. Jamie West-Oram from the hugely influential band ‘The Fixx’ supplied guitar parts whilst drums were supplied by Go West Drummer (and another ACM tutor!) Richard Brook. Composer, guitarist and ACM lecturer Giorgio Serci also donated his time to create a string arrangement for the track. Top vocalists Rose Betteridge and Deborah Pain provided backing vocals.

Grammy Award winning producer Stephen Harris, who has mixed and produced tracks for the likes of U2, Kula Shaker and The Kaiser Chiefs agreed to mix the song for the team, giving it the final touches ready for release.

Sophie Roberts' Story Hampshire, UK

Our daughter has been battling liver cancer, which spread to the lungs, since June 2011.

If you are moved by Sophie’s story and want to donate this would be fantastic as any money raised will be managed by the charity we have been working with, Kids ‘n’ Cancer, to help other children who are in situations like Sophie get a head start in getting the critical treatment they need.
